Maldives Immigration Warns Public About Scams Involving Fake Officers on Video Calls

Maldives Immigration has issued a warning to the public about a recent scam involving individuals impersonating immigration officials on video calls. The scammers, who are reportedly using WhatsApp to contact people from foreign numbers, are dressed in immigration uniforms and hats to appear legitimate.

In a statement posted on X, the immigration authority cautioned against these fraudulent activities, emphasizing that these impersonators are not affiliated with the actual immigration department. The scammers are seeking personal information and bank card details from unsuspecting individuals.

The immigration officials have reassured the public that the attempts are not related to any official immigration processes and urged people not to divulge personal information to such callers. They emphasized the importance of verifying the identity of anyone requesting sensitive information.

The warning follows a recent uptick in similar scams involving various companies and individuals. The police are actively working to investigate and address these fraudulent activities. The public is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious calls or messages to the authorities.
