In a competitive landscape where frequent travelers rely heavily on rewards programs, Point.me—a leading travel rewards search platform—has released its rankings of the world’s top airline loyalty programs for 2024. After analyzing 62 programs based on criteria such as ease of earning miles, redemption rates, and partner availability, Flying Blue, the loyalty program of Air France and KLM, has claimed the No. 1 spot.
Flying Blue scored an impressive 93.06 out of 100, praised for its extensive partnerships and excellent redemption rates. With the ability to earn points through numerous retail and travel partners, Flying Blue allows members to accumulate miles quickly and redeem them easily, especially on SkyTeam alliance flights. The program’s flexibility has made it the top choice for frequent travelers looking for value and convenience.
Aeroplan, Air Canada's loyalty program, ranked second globally with 77.43 points. It stands out for its generous reward seat availability and partner network, which includes the Star Alliance, offering travelers access to a wide range of flights worldwide. United Airlines’ MileagePlus followed closely in third place, scoring 72.22. MileagePlus received high marks for its global reach and non-flight reward options, including hotels and merchandise, despite recent criticisms over its devaluation.
British Airways Executive Club and Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club tied for fourth place, each with a score of 69.10. British Airways' program was noted for its Avios currency and Reward Flight Saver, which lowers taxes and fees on redemption flights. Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club, meanwhile, is known for offering high-value rewards for premium cabin redemptions and its partnership with Delta Air Lines.
American Airlines AAdvantage, one of the most widely recognized loyalty programs in the U.S., ranked sixth with 68.06 points. It remains a favorite for American travelers due to its flexibility in earning and redeeming miles across oneworld alliance airlines. Close behind, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan ranked seventh with 65.97 points, distinguished by its mileage-based earning model—one of the few still based on distance flown, rather than the cost of the ticket.
Qatar Airways’ Privilege Club took eighth place, scoring 62.85. The program was lauded for offering luxurious perks such as access to the renowned Al Mourjan Business Lounge in Doha and easy redemption through the oneworld alliance. JetBlue’s TrueBlue program, known for its simple points structure tied to fare costs, secured ninth place with a score of 61.81.
Rounding out the top 10 was Avianca’s LifeMiles, which earned a 59.72. Popular among Latin American travelers, LifeMiles is recognized for its generous redemption rates and frequent sales, making it a highly attractive option for those looking to maximize their miles.
Delta’s Surprising Absence from the Top 10
One notable absence from the global top 10 is Delta Air Lines’ SkyMiles program. Once a dominant player in the loyalty rewards market, Delta ranked only eighth among North American airlines. Point.me’s analysis suggests that Delta has shifted its focus away from enhancing its rewards program, instead concentrating on operational improvements and customer service in other areas, such as its airport lounges.
Regional Leaders Recognized
In addition to the global rankings, Point.me highlighted the top loyalty programs in each region. Air Canada’s Aeroplan was named the best program in North America, while Avianca LifeMiles took the top spot in Latin America. Flying Blue led in Europe, and Qatar Airways’ Privilege Club emerged as the top program in the Middle East and Africa. In the Asia-Pacific region, Cathay Pacific’s Asia Miles, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, and ANA Mileage Club tied for first place.
As the travel rewards landscape grows more complex, Point.me’s annual rankings offer a valuable resource for travelers looking to maximize the value of their miles.
