The UK government has unveiled significant changes to its immigration rules aimed at enhancing border control security, preventing abuse of the immigration system, and introducing additional safety measures prior to entry into the UK.
Beginning on November 27, 2024, citizens of 49 countries, including the Maldives, will be able to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). From January 8, 2025, travel to the UK will require an ETA for these travelers.
The ETA will cost £10 and will be valid for two years, allowing multiple trips to the UK for a maximum duration of six months per visit, or until the passport expires. Starting April 2, 2025, all travelers to the UK, with the exception of UK and Irish citizens, will be required to obtain an ETA prior to their journey.
Maldivian citizens planning to travel to the UK are advised to familiarize themselves with these new requirements and ensure compliance with UK immigration regulations. This initiative is part of the UK's broader effort to streamline its immigration process and bolster national security.
