The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has announced that scattered showers are expected across various regions of the country over the next five days, coinciding with the school holidays following the conclusion of the first term.

As the Maldives experiences monsoon rain, the Met Office reported that while scattered showers will persist, wind intensity is expected to decrease starting Friday evening. “Winds will become less intense beginning tomorrow evening. However, scattered showers are expected to continue for the next five days,” a representative stated.

In light of the anticipated weather conditions, the Met Office has issued a white alert from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM for most of the nation, particularly from Haa Dhaalu Atoll to Gaafu Alifu Atoll. This alert warns of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds ranging from 19 to 24 miles per hour, as well as rough seas with waves measuring between four to seven feet.

The weather warning comes as schools across the Maldives close for holidays, with many families expected to travel during this time. Schools will reopen for the second term on Sunday, October 6th.

Authorities are urging the public, especially seafarers, to exercise caution and remain aware of changing weather conditions as they plan their activities in the coming days.
