Maldives Welcomes 1.5 Million Tourists in 2024, Marking a 9.5% Increase

The Maldives has welcomed a total of 1.5 million tourists so far this year, representing a significant 9.5% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism.
Leading the influx of visitors, China topped the list of tourist arrivals with approximately 227,400 travelers. Following China, India contributed 165,300 arrivals, while Russia ranked third in tourist numbers. The United Kingdom placed fourth with 127,700 arrivals, and Germany closely followed with 109,700 visitors. Italy rounded out the top five with 107,623 arrivals.
The surge in tourism comes as the Maldives continues to be a popular destination for international travelers, drawn by its stunning beaches and luxury accommodations. Currently, the country boasts a total of 1,224 operational tourism facilities, which include 171 resorts, 887 guesthouses, 152 safari vessels, and 14 hotels.
As the tourism sector shows robust growth, the Maldivian government remains committed to promoting the islands as a premier travel destination while ensuring sustainable practices to protect the environment and enhance the visitor experience.
