Maldives Surpasses 2023 Tourist Arrivals, on Track to Reach 2 Million by Year-End

The Maldives has exceeded its 2023 tourist arrival total, welcoming over 1.8 million visitors by December 7, 2024. With a year-to-date total of 1,877,567 tourists, the country is on track to surpass last year’s record of 1,878,543, based on an average daily arrival of 5,490.
Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal announced the milestone on social media, celebrating the achievement as a testament to the hard work of the tourism industry and the continued support of travelers. He further confirmed that the Maldives is set to meet its 2024 goal of 2 million tourists before the year ends, with projections indicating that the target will be reached by December 25th.
In addition to surpassing its tourist arrival target, the Maldives continues to shine on the global stage, having been awarded the title of "World's Leading Destination" for the fifth consecutive year at the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA) 2024. The Maldives also bagged several other prestigious accolades, including:
- World's Leading Green Destination
- Leading Seaplane Operator: Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA)
- World's Leading Airport Resort: Hulhule' Island Hotel
- World's Leading Luxury Honeymoon Resort: Vakkaru Maldives
- World's Leading Private Island: Velaa Private Island
- World's Leading Water Villa Resort: Emerald Maldives Resort and Spa
Minister Faisal expressed optimism for even greater success in 2025, with a goal of securing at least 15 awards at the next World Travel Awards.
