President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu has announced a bold target for his party, the Progressive National Congress (PNC), aiming to recruit 75,000 members within the first year of his government. The President, who also leads the PNC, shared this goal during a meeting held at the party's office last night.
In his address, President Muizzu expressed gratitude to the party’s new signatories, emphasizing that the increase in membership is a significant boost for the government's efforts to serve the people. He urged party members to maintain their dedication and integrity in their recruitment efforts, underscoring that only genuine membership forms were accepted during the meeting.
The president asserted that he is a hundred percent confident that no fake form will come from the party’s side, whether under the existing rules or otherwise. He expressed firm belief that the party would continue to attract more members and achieve its ambitious target.
The President's goal is to have 75,000 members by the end of the year, coinciding with the completion of one year of his government. This milestone, if reached, would make the PNC the largest political party in the Maldives by membership count. Currently, according to the latest data from the Election Commission, the PNC ranks as the third-largest party with 34,827 members, trailing behind the People’s National Party (PPM) and the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which leads with 50,980 members.
To realize this objective, the PNC is integrating members from the PPM as part of a strategic move to bolster its ranks. If successful, the PNC will surpass its rivals and set a new record for party membership in the country’s history.
President Muizzu’s announcement marks a significant moment in Maldivian politics, reflecting the PNC’s ambitions and the President's commitment to expanding the party's influence.
