Over 11 Kg of Smuggled Drugs Seized in Major Customs Operation

The Maldives Customs Service has reported the seizure of over 11 kilograms of smuggled drugs in a recent major operation. The drugs were discovered in two separate incidents involving parcels and air shipments.
On May 14, customs officials intercepted a suspicious parcel delivered via courier. Upon inspection, the package was found to contain a substance later identified as synthetic cathinone. The street value of the drugs in this parcel is estimated to exceed MVR 9 million.
In a subsequent operation on August 19, customs officers searched an air shipment suspected of containing narcotics. This shipment was found to include heroin and cannabis. The estimated street value of these drugs is approximately MVR 8.9 million.
The total weight of the contraband seized from these operations amounts to 11.62 kilograms. Customs authorities have emphasized their commitment to combating drug trafficking and protecting the Maldives from the impact of illegal drugs.
