Fenaka Corporation Limited has announced plans to deploy a 1,200-kilo generator to Fuvamulak to address the island's ongoing electricity challenges. The move is aimed at resolving persistent power issues that have plagued the island.

In a recent update on ‘X’, Fenaka confirmed that the generator is part of a broader strategy to tackle Fuvamulak’s electricity problems, which the corporation attributes to the previous administration's neglect. According to Fenaka, the lack of proper maintenance and inadequate quality of spare parts for existing equipment contributed to the power shortages.

The corporation highlighted those past practices included the installation of generators without consideration for the specific power requirements of different islands. This has led to inefficiencies and equipment failures.

Earlier this year, Fenaka took immediate steps to address the electricity issues by sending two generators to Fuvamulak in January. These included an 800-kW generator set and another 800-kW unit, which were procured as part of an emergency response following the collapse of existing generators.

In addition to the current deployment, the government is working on long-term solutions to enhance electricity supply to rural areas. Initiatives include upgrading island grids and exploring renewable energy sources to ensure a more reliable and sustainable power supply.

The ongoing efforts reflect a commitment to resolving electricity issues and improving infrastructure to better serve the needs of Maldivian communities.
