Maldives Sees Improving Weather Conditions from Sunday

The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast a temporary improvement in weather conditions starting Sunday, following heavy rainfall across the country.

The latest forecast indicates showers across the northern and central regions, with heavy rainfall expected in some islands. The southernmost atolls may also experience the effects of a developing weather system.

However, the improvement is expected to be short-lived, as weather conditions could deteriorate again from Tuesday. The Meteorological Service has warned of possible heavy rainfall and strong winds during this period.

According to rainfall measurements recorded over the past 24 hours, Kulhudhuffushi City received the highest rainfall at 188.3 millimetres, followed by Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, which recorded 125.7 millimetres. Other areas experiencing heavy rainfall included Dhiffushi in Kaafu Atoll, with 62.4 millimetres, Nilandhoo in Faafu Atoll with 59.3 millimetres, Maafaru in Noonu Atoll with 58.7 millimetres, and Ifuru in Raa Atoll with 52.5 millimetres.

With further rain and strong winds expected in the coming days, residents and seafarers are advised to remain alert and follow official weather updates.
