The Ministry of Tourism has revealed plans to develop a new resort on the island of Raa. Lhaan’bugali. According to a recent statement, the island has been added to the list of potential locations for resort development, and interested parties are invited to submit proposals for the project.

The 2.66-hectare island, which has a land acquisition cost of $1.6 million, will be developed into a resort as part of the government's broader strategy to expand the tourism sector. This addition brings the total number of islands available for resort development to 14.

The full list of islands currently open for resort proposals includes:

- Hdh. Vaikaramuraidhoo

- Sh. Kudalhaimendoo

- R. Dhikureydhoo

- Lh. Dhifushi (Lh. Maidhoo)

- K. Hihliyaafalhu

- Aa. Alikolhirah

- Th. Gaalee

- Th. Ruhthibirah

- Th. Kanimeedhoo

- Lh. Kashidhoo

- Lh. Bodumunyafushi

- Ga. Beyrumaudoo

- Gdh. Kalhehuhtaa

- A lagoon in Kaafu Atoll

The government's push to develop these islands aligns with President Muizzu's earlier statement that the administration aims to introduce 20 new resorts this year, adding a total of 2,857 beds to the tourism sector.
