The Ministry of Education has outlined ambitious plans for the coming year, prioritizing the digitalisation of educational content and the effective implementation of the national curriculum to enhance student learning. Minister of State for Education, Abdul Latheef Mohamed, emphasized that the government will focus on strengthening the existing quality assurance framework as the country transitions from a knowledge-based to a competency-based curriculum, a shift that began in 2015.
In an interview with state media, Abdul Latheef detailed the ministry’s plans to revise the curriculum framework to ensure that the national emblem and core educational values are properly integrated.
The ministry is also set to accelerate the digitisation of educational content. The goal is to ensure that educational resources are accessible to all students in an inclusive and equitable manner, catering to a diverse range of learners across the nation.
As part of the effort to improve education outcomes, the Ministry will continue to revise and implement the Individual Learning Plan (ILP), a key component of the country’s inclusive education policy. The ILP aims to personalize learning experiences for students, ensuring that their unique needs are met.
Teacher training will remain a key focus area. Abdul Latheef highlighted that the ministry is planning a major initiative to revise existing teacher training programs, including the professional development of in-service teachers. The ministry intends to collaborate with teacher training universities, colleges, and other educational institutions to adapt training programs to meet current needs and improve overall teaching quality.
The education reforms, including the digitalization push and enhanced teacher training, reflect the ministry's commitment to preparing students for the future and ensuring that all learners have equal opportunities to succeed.
