Israel Issues Travel Advisory for Maldives, Urging Caution for Israeli Citizens
07 December 2024 - 05:24
Israel's National Security Council has issued a travel advisory, urging Israeli citizens to avoid traveling to the Maldives unless absolutely necessary. The advisory raised the alert level to three, signaling heightened caution for non-essential travel, citing concerns over security risks.
The National Security Council's statement highlighted the presence of terrorist supporters in the Maldives and alleged actions by the Maldivian government targeting Israeli citizens as key reasons for the heightened alert. "Israeli citizens are advised to avoid travel to the Maldives unless it is essential," the council stated, emphasizing the growing regional tensions and the potential threats to safety.
Tourism statistics reveal a significant drop in Israeli visitors to the Maldives this year. As of October 2023, 517 Israeli tourists had visited the island nation, but the numbers have sharply declined since then. Reports suggest that the Maldives has imposed restrictions on Israeli tourists following the escalation of violence in Gaza, with some restrictions reportedly barring Israeli nationals from entering the country.
This travel advisory comes amid ongoing concerns about the safety of Israeli citizens abroad as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise. Israel's National Security Council is closely monitoring the situation and has urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid non-essential travel to the Maldives until further notice.
