Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has condemned recent comments by Fayyaz Ismail, chairperson of the opposition MDP, who suggested that the Maldivian people should do to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu what was done to former President Mohamed Amin Didi.
Speaking at a Human Rights Day event, Nazim called the remarks dangerous and irresponsible, emphasizing that such rhetoric promoting violence has no place in Maldivian politics. He reminded the public that Amin Didi's assassination in 1954 was part of a politically motivated plot, and warned that using such historical incidents to justify violence is unacceptable.
Nazim also stressed that achieving human rights requires not only laws but a change in political attitudes, calling on leaders to guide the nation toward peace and respect for all. The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) condemned Fayyaz’s remarks, describing them as inciting hatred and violence, while the ruling PNC has called for an investigation.
