PNC Condemns MDP Chair for Defending Violent Remarks About President Muizzu

The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has strongly condemned MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail for defending comments made by an MDP activist, suggesting that the fate of the first Maldivian President Mohamed Ameen should be repeated for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The PNC described Ameen's fate, which involved his violent overthrow in 1954, as a "dark chapter" in the nation’s history. The party emphasized that the current constitutional system is designed to resolve political disputes peacefully, without resorting to violence.

PNC accused Fayyaz of encouraging hate speech, calling the incident an act of terrorism. The comments, initially made by an MDP activist during a rally in Kulhudhuffushi, were in preparation for the party’s upcoming constitutional defense event. Fayyaz, in a press conference, stated that if the public is mistreated, "Ameen's fate must be replicated." He later clarified that the comment was intended to advise the president, not incite violence.

The PNC has called for a thorough investigation into the remarks.
