President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that Hussain Salahuddin will be posthumously awarded the Highest Honor for Service to Maldivian Nationalism. This prestigious accolade recognizes Salahuddin's immense contributions to the development of Maldivian religion, Dhivehi language, heritage, and culture, as well as his efforts to disseminate knowledge.
Born in 1881, Hussain Salahuddin is celebrated for his pivotal role in Maldivian literature. His notable achievements include translating a range of works from Arabic, Urdu, and Persian into Dhivehi, making significant contributions to the cultural and educational landscape of the Maldives.
Salahuddin's illustrious career included serving as Attorney General and Chief Justice of the Maldives. He was also a key figure in education, founding and leading Majeediyya School in Male’ City, the Maldives' first formal educational institution. His contributions extended to the National Literary Committee established by President Mohamed Amin Didi.

Hussain Salahuddin passed away at the age of 67 in 1948. His legacy continues to be a cornerstone of Maldivian literature and culture.
The Highest Honor for Service to Maldivian Nationalism, along with the National Award of Honor and the National Award of Recognition, will be presented during the National Day ceremony scheduled for 9:00 am on Wednesday. This year, the National Award of Honor will be conferred upon seven individuals, including the late Mohamed Thaufeeq of Haajaraage, who is being recognized posthumously for his narration of Prophet Mohamed’s life story and his efforts to promote interest in it. Additionally, ten individuals will receive the National Award of Recognition.
These awards aim to honor those who have made exceptional contributions to the nation’s development and cultural heritage.
