The Maldives Meteorological Office has issued a weather warning for light to moderate rain and thundershowers in the southern part of the country today. According to the latest forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall and thundershowers are expected to affect isolated areas in the south until 6:00 PM local time.

In addition to the rainfall, the Met Office has cautioned that squally winds, with speeds ranging from 3 to 13 miles per hour, are likely to occur along and off the west coast. Gusts could reach up to 30 miles per hour, potentially impacting coastal areas.

The forecast indicates an improvement in weather conditions for the southern and northern parts of the country over the next three days. Although recent rains in the central region have caused localized flooding, they are not considered a significant concern at this time.

Recent heavy rains have led to flooding in several urban areas, creating difficulties for transportation and pedestrian movement. The Met Office advises the public to stay alert to weather updates and limit travel to essential trips only, especially given the rough sea conditions.
