Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has announced ongoing efforts to collaborate with a Hollywood studio to produce a film that will spotlight the Maldives and enhance investment opportunities in the country. Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office, Minister Saeed emphasized that this initiative aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to foster a thriving creative economy.

Saeed revealed that discussions are underway with the creators of Finding Nemo and that a Hollywood-based startup has already engaged in exploratory visits to the Maldives to assess potential partnerships. The startup is scheduled to make a return visit, which is expected to solidify plans for the project.

The minister expressed optimism that the film would serve as a global platform to attract investors and tourists alike, promoting the Maldives as both a tourist destination and a business hub. This project is part of the government's broader effort to boost the creative economy, with the Business Centre Corporation (BCC) leading initiatives to establish a hub for local talent and foster international collaborations.

While the idea of promoting the Maldives through films has long been a public wish, no significant steps had been taken until now. Minister Saeed’s announcement marks a significant move towards leveraging film as a tool to showcase the nation to a global audience.
