At a press conference today at the President’s Office, Minister of Higher Education Dr. Mariyam Mariya announced that funding for students set to begin their studies in September is currently being processed.

During her address, the Minister highlighted the government's commitment to improving educational opportunities for Maldivian students abroad. She noted that the government has allocated USD 103 million for scholarships, which are provided in either USD or the local currency of the students’ host countries. These funds are deposited directly into the universities or banks where the students are enrolled.

In addition to scholarship funding, students also receive a two-month stipend and pocket money to support their living expenses while studying.

Dr. Mariya acknowledged challenges faced by the ministry, particularly the influx of calls from multiple parties on behalf of a single student, as well as issues arising from incomplete forms or missing documentation. She emphasized that students starting their programs in September are currently the ministry's top priority, ensuring that they receive the necessary support and resources for a successful academic journey.
