The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has lifted the ban on Cofsy, a widely used cough syrup produced in India, following quality concerns that led to its suspension last month. In a statement released on Sunday, the MFDA announced that tests conducted on the affected batches revealed no issues.
“Therefore, the import, sale, and consumption of this medicine is permissible effective immediately,” the MFDA stated.
The temporary ban on Cofsy syrup was imposed on August 19 after “particles” were discovered in the syrup, prompting the agency to conduct safety tests.
Cofsy syrup, manufactured by India’s MMC Healthcare Ltd., is a combination medicine used for treating cough with mucus and also alleviates symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes.
