The Maldivian government has issued a strong condemnation of the attack on the residence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador in Khartoum, Sudan's capital.
In a statement released by the Foreign Ministry, the government highlighted that targeting diplomatic facilities constitutes a blatant violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and international laws regarding diplomatic immunity.
The statement reiterated the importance of upholding the inviolability of diplomatic premises, as mandated by international treaties and customs that govern diplomatic relations.
“The government and the people of Maldives stand in solidarity with the Government and the people of UAE during this time,” the statement concluded.
Reports from Reuters indicated that the UAE government claimed the attack was carried out by a Sudanese military aircraft, labeling it a "heinous attack." However, the Sudanese army denied these accusations, instead blaming the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Tensions have escalated, with the Sudanese army previously accusing the UAE of supplying arms to the RSF.
