Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer has announced that the Maldives will push for international cooperation to address the Palestinian issue during the upcoming Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Conference. Speaking to media prior to his departure to Saudi Arabia, Minister Zameer emphasized that the Maldives will call on global leaders to take action against what it terms as genocide by Israel against Palestinians.
In addition to urging immediate measures to halt the violence, the Maldives will advocate for increased recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state.
The Extraordinary Open-ended Meeting of the OIC Executive Committee, which will be held in Jeddah, has been convened at the request of Palestine and Iran. This meeting seeks to address the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestinians and follows the recent assassination of former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in the Gaza Strip.
Minister Zameer is scheduled to deliver a key address at the one-day meeting, where he will outline the Maldives' position and objectives regarding the Palestinian situation.
