Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohammed Shaheem Ali Saeed underscored the government's ongoing efforts to ensure that the Maldives enters the next century with a strong Islamic foundation. Minister Shaheem made these remarks during an official ceremony at Dharubaaruge this morning, commemorating the Maldives' Conversion Day.

In his address, Minister Shaheem emphasized the government's commitment to upholding the Islamic character of the nation. He praised President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for his dedicated work over the past years in promoting Islamic values within the country. Shaheem noted that under President Muizzu’s leadership, the government has been striving to maintain the country's strong Islamic identity while navigating the challenges of the modern world.

Minister Shaheem also highlighted an important reform introduced by President Muizzu regarding the recognition of Hafizs—those who have memorized the entire Quran. In the past, awards for *Hafizs* were given based on rankings, which led to categorizing individuals into groups. Minister Shaheem expressed his support for President Muizzu’s decision to abolish this system, ensuring that all *Hafizs* receive recognition without any distinction or ranking.

In Addition to this, Minister Shaheem stressed that the country's future lies in its adherence to Islamic principles. He referred to the ongoing efforts of the government as part of a broader vision to guide the nation into the next century with a robust Islamic faith at its core.

The ceremony, marking the Maldives' Islamic Day, served as a reminder of the nation's deep-rooted Islamic identity, which has shaped the country for centuries. Minister Shaheem reaffirmed that the government's priority is to continue strengthening and preserving this character as it progresses toward the future.

The remarks by Minister Shaheem come at a time when the Maldives is increasingly looking to bridge its Islamic heritage with the modern challenges of the 21st century. As the country moves forward, the government is focused on promoting religious education, ensuring that Islamic principles guide both policy and daily life.

With the continued leadership of President Muizzu and the efforts of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the Maldives is positioning itself to enter the next century not only with physical infrastructure but with an unwavering commitment to its Islamic values.
