The Maldives and Saudi Arabia have signed an annual agreement on Hajj services, reaffirming their commitment to facilitating a seamless and well-organized pilgrimage for Maldivian citizens. The agreement was signed by Maldives' Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, and Saudi Arabia's Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah.

Key Highlights of the Agreement

The agreement outlines essential procedures for managing Hajj-related affairs, including:

  1. Payment mechanisms for Hajj services.
  2. Operational guidelines for Maldivian companies providing Hajj services.
  3. Establishment of a Maldivian Hajj mission to oversee the welfare and needs of Maldivian pilgrims during the Hajj season.

In a separate development, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held discussions with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud during the United Nations General Assembly. The talks focused on increasing the annual Hajj quota for Maldivian pilgrims, reflecting the government's efforts to accommodate more citizens wishing to perform the sacred pilgrimage.

The Maldives government continues to engage with Saudi authorities to enhance cooperation and expand opportunities for Maldivian pilgrims.
