The Male' City Council has unanimously agreed to hand over Olhuhiyaa, a facility built at the cost of the city's budget, to the government when requested. The decision was made during the 174th General Meeting of the Fourth Session of the City Council, following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Council and the Ministry of Agricultural Animal Welfare.
Male' City Mayor Adam Azim confirmed that while there are still some issues to be addressed at the Olhuhiyaa, the Council is prepared to facilitate the relocation of bulls from Male' City to the shelter. This move aims to resolve the ongoing issues caused by the bulls roaming the city. "We are ready to start the process of relocating the bulls as soon as the government is ready," Mayor Azim stated.
The decision to hand over the Olhuhiyaa comes after the Ministry of Agriculture requested the site be transferred to the government, citing the President's directive. Deputy Mayor Ahmed Naresh emphasized that although the shelter would be handed over, the city should receive compensation for the costs incurred in building the facility. "The Male' City Council should be reimbursed for the expenses spent on constructing the Olhu Shelter," he said.
Councilor Mohamed Saif Fatih echoed the Deputy Mayor's sentiments, urging that the process of relocating the bulls to the shelter should begin promptly to alleviate the inconvenience faced by Male' City residents due to the presence of the bulls. The handover of the shelter is seen as an important step in addressing the public nuisance caused by the bulls while ensuring that the city's budgetary contributions are properly accounted for.
