In a message marking National Fishermen's Day, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef emphasized the importance of integrating modern technological advancements to boost the fishery sector's growth and sustainability. The day, celebrated annually on 10 December, honors the hard work and dedication of the nation's fishermen.
Vice President Latheef praised local fishermen for their crucial role in driving the nation's economy, describing the fishery sector as a cornerstone of the Maldives' economic structure. He acknowledged the challenges faced by fishermen while expressing his commitment to improving the sector's future.
Highlighting the need for progress, Latheef urged the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to further enhance the industry. He also offered prayers for the sector's continued prosperity and growth, in line with the government's vision for a thriving fishery industry.
The observance of Fishermen’s Day also aligns with the ongoing efforts of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration to address the concerns of local fishermen. The government has taken significant steps to resolve issues such as payment delays, ensuring that fishermen receive payments for their catch within 48 hours of sale, as promised during the President’s electoral campaign.
