President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended his warm greetings to Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of India’s Republic Day. In separate letters to both leaders, he conveyed heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives.

In his messages, President Muizzu emphasized the strong and enduring relationship between the Maldives and India, built on mutual trust, respect, and cooperation. He reiterated the Maldives' commitment to further strengthening these ties and collaborating with India to tackle shared challenges on both bilateral and global stages.

The Maldives-India partnership is widely regarded as one of the most important diplomatic alliances for both nations. India has been instrumental in supporting the Maldives’ development, providing aid in infrastructure, health initiatives, and financial assistance. Key agreements between the two countries include cooperation in defense, trade, and disaster management, reflecting their shared priorities in regional security and economic stability.

India has also been a steadfast partner during times of crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, when it supplied essential vaccines and medical supplies to the Maldives. Both countries have long collaborated in multilateral forums like SAARC, with India playing a significant economic and political role in the region.

In his letters, President Muizzu reaffirmed the importance of this strategic partnership and wished for the continued peace, prosperity, and well-being of the Indian people. He also expressed his best wishes for the good health of both President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi.

India's Republic Day, celebrated annually on January 26, marks the adoption of the country’s Constitution. Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India were formally established on July 26, 1965, and have since flourished through decades of cooperation and shared values.

Alongside his formal messages, President Muizzu also posted a congratulatory message on his official ‘X’ account, reiterating his best wishes to India on this momentous occasion. The Maldives-India partnership continues to be a key aspect of the Maldives’ foreign policy, highlighting the importance of working together to address global challenges like climate change, regional security, and economic development.
