The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued an advisory stating that the southwest monsoon is currently active over the Maldives region. The service has warned that the monsoon conditions are expected to bring strong winds, heavy rainfall, and thunderstorms over the coming days.

According to the MET, average wind speeds of 15-25 miles per hour are expected in the north and central regions, while the southern areas could experience winds ranging from 13-23 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 45-55 miles per hour. These conditions are forecast to persist for the next five days.

In addition to the strong winds, the MET also warned of heavy squally showers and thunderstorms, which may lead to wave surges during high tide periods.

The MET office has urged the public, particularly seafarers, to exercise caution during this period and stay informed of the latest weather updates.
