The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert for the northern and central atolls and a white alert for the southern atolls due to severe weather conditions expected today.

As of 1:00 pm, the yellow alert indicates winds of 25 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, and very rough seas in the northern and central atolls.

Meanwhile, a white alert has been issued for the southern atolls, including regions around Male and the southern islands. This alert forecasts heavy rain, thunderstorms, and winds between 19 and 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph and strong seas.

The ongoing western monsoon rains have already caused flooding in several areas, including the Malay region. The government has mobilized a special task force to address the flooding and provide relief to affected communities.
