The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued an advisory regarding the ongoing Southwest Monsoon, which is currently active over the Maldives region. According to the latest weather report, the monsoon is expected to continue bringing strong winds, heavy showers, and thunderstorms to the archipelago over the next several days.

The MET office reported that average wind speeds of 15-25 miles per hour are being experienced in the northern and central areas of the Maldives, while the southern regions are seeing slightly lower winds, ranging from 13-23 miles per hour. However, gusts of 45-55 miles per hour are expected, particularly in the central and northern atolls.

In addition to the strong winds, the MET office has warned of heavy squally showers and thunderstorms, which may disrupt outdoor activities and sea conditions. The weather is expected to cause significant wave surges, especially during high tide periods, posing potential hazards to seafarers and coastal areas.

The public, particularly those involved in maritime activities, are urged to exercise caution during this period. The MET office has recommended that seafarers be vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid accidents due to the rough sea conditions and inclement weather.

The current weather system is typical of the Southwest Monsoon, which generally brings increased rainfall and strong winds to the region. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to issue updates as needed.

As the weather conditions are expected to persist over the coming days, the MET office has advised the public to stay informed through official channels and take necessary safety measures to mitigate any risks associated with the ongoing adverse weather.
